On Friday, June 3 three TMSS grade eight students and 3 Kinistin grade eight students attended the Cardboard Boat Race Challenge in Saskatoon at Polytechnic sponsored by the Saskatoon Tribal Council, Saskatoon Industry Education Council, and Potash Corp. This was a great opportunity for the TMSS and Kinistin students to get to know each other as they will all be attending school together in grade nine in the fall. They spent the morning using only cardboard and duct tape to build a boat following their designs that they had created the week before when they'd spent a day at Kinistin reviewing buoyancy and thinking about their design and building a prototype. Adjudicators graded them on their team work, creativity and design. Then in the afternoon, they portaged to the Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre to test their boats in the pool and race each other in a few different challenges. Our two teams came out on top winning gold and silver. What great representatives of the north east!
