We are changing our 3 way conferences for grades 7-9 this year to be more aligned with what we have been doing in grades 10-12 in terms of the information sessions. We are happy to be able to expand our offerings into a broader contexts that will reach a wider age grouping.
This year, we will offer:
Class Selection (geared more toward 10-12, we will offer a grade 9 specific version in the spring, but all are welcome to attend). This session is hosted by Mr. Harbor, PPCS guidance counsellor.
Apprenticeship and Trades (it's never too soon to explore all post secondary options). This session is hosted by Mr. Hobbins, PPCS IA teacher.
Rubrics and Grading (what do all the letters mean? How do I know if my student is doing ok?). This session is hosted by Mr. Mielke, PPCS principal.
Study Skills (the number 1 reason students give for doing poorly on exams is failure to study, this session will help you work as a team to make sure students are prepared for assessments). This session is hosted by Mr. Bloski, PPCS teacher.
Budgeting and Finance (once students finish grade 12, it gets a whole lot more expensive, how can you prepare and utilize the tools to make it as financially painless as possible. It is never too early to start thinking about this). This session is hosted by Bob Nicholson from PPCU.
Anxiety in Youth (kids don't just seem more anxious, they are. This session will walk through a team based approach to help your child deal with anxiety). This session is hosted by Katie Adair, a counselling consultant for NESD.
Online Safety and Drugs (we can't be with them all the time. How can we best prepare them to be smart and resilient in these two areas and how can we, as caregivers be more aware?). This session is hosted by Luke Kaley with the RCMP.
Families can also choose a traditional 3 way conference.
Attendance is a mandatory requirement of the ELA programs.
