Tuesday, May 19th: Daily Learning Plan for Grade Two

ELA
1. Journal entry topic: Signs of Spring
Describe the changes that happen when the season becomes spring. What do you see, hear, smell and feel that confirms this season? What is your favourite sign of spring? Try to write 6 or more sentences, and don't forget your picture at the end. Use your dictionary to help with spelling or underline these words. You can come back to these words later and edit the spelling. Remember to use capitals and punctuation.
2. Word Skills: read your word list out loud (to yourself or someone in your family), and then spell out each word out loud (say each letter that makes up the word)
Long List (long "u"): school, moon, gloomy, chew, flew, Andrew, fruit, suit, glue, clue
(bonus words: continue, parachute, shampoo)
Short List (consonant blends): trap, drum, grip, brick, crab
3. Colourful Words (practice your word list using a different colour for each letter)
4. Reading: your goal is to read for at least 20 minutes each day (choose any story from your books at home, EPIC or Raz-Kids)

MATH
1.   Card Game: Addition Snap
You'll need a partner to play with. Remove jacks, queens and kings. Shuffle and deal out cards. Each person flips his/her top card at the same time. Add these numbers together. First player to call out the correct sum first, wins both cards and adds to his/her pile. Keep playing until someone runs out of cards.
Challenge: keep all cards in play (jacks=11, queens=12 and kings=13). Have fun!
2. Math facts-continue to practice using your cards
3. Workbook-continue to work on the next two pages (wherever you are in the workbook).
